Creative exploration
I wanted a font that would stand out that was strong, weighty and bold to represent boxing as a sport. I decided to use Aktiv Grotesk Extra Bold and Regular as a font, but I also explored similar fonts that I thought could bring out a similar look and feel I was looking for. The client didn’t want to limit the target audience, but focused more on the young and middle aged. I searched for strong contrasting colours like black and red, but didn’t want to necessarily limit myself to those colours. The client wanted the logo to be strong and sharp, so I explored solid shapes and patterns that could be incorporated into the design. Below is the mindboard I began with which helped me come up with ideas for the tone, look and feel of the logo.
Project brief
The client works in the community to help and improve the lives of underprivileged kids and provides them with opportunities through practical activities like boxing. He called his company IronGate boxing and wanted a logo which represented something that resembled iron and looked rough and would featured a gate into the design. I came up with a logo and social designs he could use to promote his activity in the boxing community.
